The most common is a specific fractional distillate of petroleum fuel oil, but alternatives that are not derived from petroleum, such as biodiesel, biomass to liquid (BTL) or gas to liquid (GTL) diesel, are increasingly being developed and adopted. To distinguish these types, petroleum-derived diesel is increasingly called petrodiesel. Ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) is a standard for defining diesel fuel with substantially lowered sulfur contents. As of 2007, almost every diesel fuel available in America and Europe is the ULSD type. HistoryDiesel engineMain article: Diesel engineDiesel engines are a type of internal combustion engine. Rudolf Diesel originally designed the diesel engine to use coal dust as a fuel. He also experimented with various oils, including some vegetable oils, such as peanut oil, which was used to power the engines which he exhibited at the 1900 Paris Exposition and the 1911 World's Fair in Paris. Many diesel tuners sell diesel smoke kit switches that allow you to blow a bunch of smoky, unburned fuel out the exhaust, but why would you want that? It's just a waste and it's actually illegal in many places...and it looks stupid . You're truck will look like a flaming POS going down the road. If you are going to run already pure biodiesel, what you are really concerned about is the attack of rubber parts in the fuel system by the fuel, the biodiesel will eat up old style rubber parts but new rubber (viton) seals and teflon hoses or all metal fuel lines are impervious. So any newer diesel (don't know the exact year on Jeeps, sorry, but after 2002 should be OK) should be already fine, any older ones are going to need hoses, fuel lift pumps, possibly an injector pump rebuild ($$ maybe 400 $$) and proably a few fuel filter changes, the biodiesel will clean all the old sludge out of the tank and it will clog a few filters until it is all gone. Q. I am of the opinion that bio-diesel performs better than conventional diesel and I m looking for technical evidence. Asked by baje3000 - Sun May 13 05:37:09 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I disagree. I work for a company that makes and uses bio-diesel and it doesn't perform as well as regular diesel. The bio-diesel can clog the fuel filters as it tends to thicken up in cold or warm weather and, depending on the oil you use, it smells really bad!
